Safety of structures and extreme loads risk assessment

Title Safety of structures and extreme loads risk assessment
Abstract Interdisciplinary analysis of the interaction between extreme actions and specific types of structures on project will be performed applying the information-communication technology, based on results of terrain and laboratory investigations.
Thus it will be possible to get insight into the real behaviour/response of the structure during a given time period and to prove the structure reliability level which will be expressed by the reliability index as a measure of the probability of failure of the supporting/bearing capacity. According to these findings new types of structures will be proposed such as antennas, masts, various types of bridges, etc.
The objective of the research is to assess and study the behaviour of structures according to previous results and the latest findings on extreme actions (wind, snow, high temperature, etc.); this research will be carried out during the structure exploitation in order to assess the reliability level/degree and risk assessment. The hypothesis is based on the facts that past investigations of the values of specific extreme actions upon the structures in Croatia have not been completed (meteorological basis) and coded within the National Application Document and the fact that the existing structures in most cases do not possess a satisfactory reliability level/degree, particularly in case of extreme action.
Key words critical loads, extreme wind, constructions
